Storm shelters, evacuation routes, AED's & other safety features

From Lang Hall to Panther Village, safety is everywhere on the University of Northern Iowa campus. Know where to find the closest AED, evacuation chair, evacuation route and storm shelter before you need them by visiting the Safety is Everywhere Map

In addition, please find the following listing of designated shelter locations; for buildings without a designated shelter location the best protection in a tornado or severe weather is usually an underground area. If you are unable to go to an underground location, the best above ground areas in a building are: (1) small interior rooms on lowest level; (2) hallways on lowest floor away from outside doors and windows; or (3) rooms constructed of reinforced concrete, brick or block with no windows and heavy concrete floor or roof.

Sign up to receive weather alerts from Alert Iowa. In the event of an emergency or severe weather, an alert will be sent to the phone number and/or email address provided by voice, text and/or email. This is a free service provided by Black Hawk County and the State of Iowa, however, normal message fees may apply. To receive text messages to your cell phone, your cell phone must have text messaging capabilities. Notifications are dependent upon external providers and receipt of notifications by the intended recipient cannot be guaranteed.
